| Surry County required a new courthouse and additional jail space. Phasing for the project was critical in order to maintain the full operation of the existing facilities until the new space was ready for occupation. The building program included a new 100,000 sq ft courthouse, an 18,000 sq ft jail addition, and renovations to the existing 25,000 sq ft jail facility. The new courthouse contains five courtrooms with support spaces, as well as office space. The jail addition adds 48 new beds, eight isolation cells, a new intake center, a drive-through sally-port, a visitation center and a magistrate’s office. |
